Italian 1930's Mother of Pearl Hand-Carved Table
A highly unique and rare Italian 1930's console or vanity table; the exquisite mother of pearl surface cascades down the sides creating a waterfall effect; the apron and legs of hand-carved, lacquered wood resembling a snakeskin or fish scale effect. The single drawer blends seamlessly with the apron creating a sleek and glamourous effect; so indicative of the Art Deco era. A single brass escutcheon graces the center. The legs are elegantly tapered.
The use of exotic materials were frequently used in Art Deco design to create a sense of luxury and opulence. These materials were often used lavishly and ornately and were intended to convey a sense of luxury, sophistication, and elegance. This is highly refined piece which echoes the grandeur and sophistication of a bygone Era for which the mastery and skill for exquisite craftsmanship was prized.
Italy, circa 1930
Size: 28 3/4" high x 31 1/2" wide x 19 1/2" deep x 23" high to apron.
