A very fine walnut coffee or side table designed by Gio Ponti in 1939 as part of a suite of furniture Ponti designed for the Vetrocoke offices in Marghera, Venice. The circular top features a vibrant sunburst pattern in warm, golden walnut, bordered by a deeply ribbed, multi-stepped apron. The table is anchored by a dynamic tripod pedestal base featuring stylized hourglass legs with ribbed, outward-curving feet that echo the detailing of the top, a hallmark motif that Gio Ponti introduced during the late 1930's. Retaining its original inventory metal tag, this piece displays the refined craftsmanship and graphic elegance for which Ponti designs are renown. Equal parts architectural sculpture and functional table, it serves as a commanding centerpiece for an entryway, living room or library. With its original glass inset top.
