$8,950

Jean-Claude Mahey Octagonal Black Lacquered & Brass Wall Mirror, circa 1970

An exceptionally designed wall mirror by French designer, Jean-Claude Mahey, featuring an octagonal shape and a bold geometric composition of black lacquered, glass and polished brass trim. The piece centers around an octagonal clear mirror plate surrounded by a stepped black glass inner frame, an inlaid brass mirrored border, and a wide black lacquered outer glass margin. This multi-layered design creates striking depth and high contrast elegance, typical of 1970's French fashion and would infuse a sleek, modernist aesthetic to any interior. The reverse features brass mounting hardware and a chain for hanging.

Born in Mayenne, France, in 1944, he graduated from the College of Applied Arts of Paris in 1966. From 1967 to 1976, Mahey worked for several luxury furniture manufacturers such as Maison Jansen, Roche Bobois, Maison Romeo and Maville Interiors. In 1976, he decided to make the bold move of striking out on his own and founded his namesake furniture design company.

Besides his love of marquetry, Mahey was interested in perfecting a heavy lacquer technique that produced mirror-like finishes and softened hard edges. Collectors greatly admire and seek out Mahey’s lacquered chests of drawers ,cabinets and mirrors.

By Jean-Claude Mahey, France, circa 1970's

Size: 37 1/2" square x 1 1/2" deep
