Gio Ponti Brass Horizontal Over-Mantle Brass Framed Mirror
A Gio Ponti brass framed majestic 'caminiera' or over-mantle mirror. The size and scale are very unusual, the brass elegantly shaped frame and original mercury glass with wonderful original patina. With it's original label and number on the wood back, the label likely indicates the owner who made the original purchase of the mirror. 'Caminiera' or over-mantle mirrors were originally used in northern cities, such as Venice to reflect the light into a room from outside in the dark and gloomy winter months.
