An exquisite and extremely elegant Italian 18th century Louis XVI period carved, painted and gilded wood Neoclassical console table, with original Carrara white marble top. The freestanding console is raised by circular tapered legs with acanthus leaf gilded carvings above the arrow shaped feet and with gilded banding on the upper portion of the elegantly shaped legs. The rectangular frieze is decorated throughout on the front and sides with carved and gilded flutes and a central medallion featuring a portrait surrounded by a sunburst. Stunning contrast between the original gilding, cream paint and white Carrera marble. All paint, gilding and the marble are original to the piece. Unfinished on the backside.
